AST DORMITORY PROGRAM
Q & A

Q : How big is a room, and how many students share a room?
Our dormitory is one building: one floor for girls and one floor for boys. The building has four rooms, and facilities include bathrooms with showers, sinks and toilets.

Q : Are rooms assigned or do we get to choose?
The dormitory supervisor reserves the right to assign rooms to students. The dormitory supervisor usually assigns rooms randomly so we may or may not have other students in the same grade living together. Most often, friends end up sharing rooms or roommates become friends.

Q : How are rooms furnished and what do we need to bring?
Every dorm student is provided with a single bed, desk, and wardrobe. Students need to bring sheets, towels, blanket, clothes, and personal hygiene products. As for electronic goods, students may bring PCs, stereos, cellular phones, and any other items they need in the dorm. However, neither the school nor the supervisor is responsible for any lost items. There are some restrictions including items that are not allowed in school in general i.e. alcohol, tobacco, hot plates, etc.
* No Internet access is available in dorm or building. (Available in computer satellite lab)
* No cable is available in dorm room or building.

Q : Is there any teacher available to help students with their assignments?
The dormitory supervisor supervises a monitored study hall, and is available to help students on a limited basis with homework. Students may also work together when they need help with their work. Students must attend the monitored study hall session.

Q : Where does study hall take place?
Study hall is located in the satellite computer lab. The computer lab has computers with Internet access.

Q : Who does the cleaning?
Students are responsible for keeping their areas clean. Our janitors clean the bathrooms and the hallways only.

Q : Will Dormitory Supervisor wake student up?
Students are responsible for waking themselves up in the morning, and going to class on time. The dormitory supervisor attends breakfast. Students who might have overslept will be woken then, but the supervisor will not be responsible for a student’s tardiness.

Q : When do students need to return to dorm?
Students must leave the dormitory on weekends by 5:00 PM Friday and when school is closed. Students may start arriving in the dorm after 6:00 PM. on the day before school starts. Students must return to their rooms by 10:30 PM, and lights will be turned off at 11:30 PM. With parental consent students may choose to come back on the morning school starts. Please notify the dormitory supervisor if you will arrive in the morning.

Q : What if my child is sick or needs to go off of campus?
Our school nurse is on campus from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. the school nurse can accompany a student to see a doctor if necessary during those hours. Parents are responsible for leaving updated nighttime contact phone numbers with the dormitory supervisor. The dormitory supervisor will transport the student to a local hospital in case of an emergency after school hours. For any student to leave campus, parent(s) must provide written permission with the specific date and time, and a signature.
