All students must take the required core and elective subjects to earn a minimum of twenty-four credits to graduate from American School in Taichung. The following minimum number of subject-specific credits must be earned before a student can graduate:

A Social Service experience of 25 hours is required of all seniors. (Community Service Activity-See Special Booklet).

Students who, because of their transfer status or other weighty reasons, are unable to complete all graduation requirements may apply to the Director for a waiver of a requirement.

• When a student transfers to AST with one full year of a high school modern language credit that is not offered at AST, he/she shall be allowed to complete the second year for the graduation requirement through either a correspondence course (through a university already recognized by AST) or if appropriate, an independent study course monitored by a teacher at level III or AP. There may be an extra expense for an independent study course.

• When a student attends AST, the student must take a modern language that is offered to fulfill the two-year foreign language credits required for graduation. If the student is a native speaker of the language and there is no other option offered as a foreign language class at AST, then the student will need to fulfill two years of the language at a level higher than his/her current level of proficiency.
